This is going to be short, kiddos. I can’t believe we had an hour-long results show when there are only 3 contestants left. Also, I’m still pretty surprised at how it went down. First, we get a recap of last night’s performances. Whoopie. We were all there. Then we get a talk about the Idol Tour this summer, which again: are you swinging by Grand Rapids? Do you need a roadie?
We then get footage of their trips back to their hometown. It’s adorable, but pretty barfy. Jordin cries and hugs her best friend, Blake cries and his dad cries (awwwww) and he sings the Nat’l Anthem at a Mariners game, Melinda has a parade, etc etc. It’s about as exciting as you’d imagine. Interspersed with this is Ryan teasing us that he’ll reveal any results before the last 5 minutes. He actually faked me out on the first one. He brought Jordin down to center stage and started reviewing her judges’ comments from last night and I typed, “Wow, results? It’s only 9:20?” I’m such a sucker.
Elliot Yamin is here. For those who don’t remember or don’t RECOGNIZE him, he finished 3rd last year behind Beauty and the Epileptic Beast. Anyway, Elliott and his Fixed Teeth and Michael Jackson hair sing a song that lasts approximately 12 minutes. I get a text message from my roommate from last year, Diana (it’s so sad we don’t still live together b/c this recaps would be 10 x funnier with her comments interjected. We were like a comedy routine together) and she says, “No! I don’t like Elliott with straight teeth.” I message her back that he looks like Goatboy and she goes, “Shit, he does! My magical little troll no more. : ( “
So then Maroon 5 sings and to be honest: I got a phone call and had it muted the whole time. Was it good? However, the lead singer, whoever he is? HOT. Very, very skinny, like hide-behind-a-lamppost skinny, but hot.
We finally get some results and WHAT? Jordin is safe! No way, I’m actually surprised. I figured Melinda was too good and Blake was too popular for Jordin to survive. Huh. However, I do think she ruled the night last night and has also really, really grown as a performer this season, so I’m totally okay with her being in the final 2. However, Melinda goes home and I am very surprised at that. She’s the best singer in the competition, but last night was rough for her and I guess it bit her in the ass.
Here’s how I feel about this: A Melinda/Jordin finale is really the way it SHOULD have gone, but any show that involves the American Public voting is never going to go the way it SHOULD. The fact that the finale is half right is still pretty impressive. Also, over on TWoP, their recappers still think this is the most talented Final 2 ever. That got me thinking: Kelly is amazing but Justin Guarini sucked. Clay has his moments but isn’t that great and Ruben sucked. Carrie is great but Bo Bice isn’t as good as Blake. Katharine could really sing and Taylor had his moments, but I’d still give the edge to Jordin & Blake. Huh. Discuss. Lady Andrea will see you next week for the finale. Here’s hoping Jordin wins!

Well, I have said from the beginning that a girl was going to win this “American Idol” competition but it seems that I am wrong. Simon, your show is doomed! And no way on any “older vote” theory unless I really am that nieve and America is really that shallow. It’s closing in on 9pm, I have to go to bed now.
